Mike Asplin is a freelance photojournalist based in St Albans,
Hertfordshire. He is supported in his work by wife Alison, three daughters
and Finnish Lapphund
puppy. Mike has travelled extensively through out the world taking stunning
images both on land and underwater examples of which can be found by
following the Gallery link above.
Mike started taking underwater images in 1998 with a small Sony compact before upgrading to
an Olympus housing and strobe. In Spring 2007 he decided to take his
underwater photography more seriously. Mike has invested in a Nikon D200
with a Subal housing and twin Inon Z240 strobes. He has trained
several times with the distinguished underwater photographer and author
Martin Edge.
Recent Publications & Awards
Mike
has been taking photographs for over 25 years for his own pleasure, but now
is looking to have some of his work published including supplying
images to stock libraries.
Mike won the coveted
"Edge Photoquest" competition that took place in Red Sea in March 2008,
as voted by his fellow photographers. This was the
winning image.
